En buss i Saraaburi fattade eld och dödade 30 passagerare. Grymma familjetragedier utspelar sig. Nu vill man ställa ansvariga till svars.

I vanlig ordning kommer man lyckas ersätta anhöriga med minimumbelopp. De tar emot och förbinder sig med tystnadsplikt. Det är lite tråkigt att man säljer sig så billigt.

A relative tries to identify her loved one.

Urai Chasombat, 32, wept as she tried to identify her daughter, Manthana, 12, among the charred bodies in Siriraj Hospital on Wednesday. Thirty passengers were burnt to death on Tuesday after ill-fated bus caught fire in Saraburi.

“I don’t know which body is my daughter, they are all unrecognisable from the burns,” said Urai. Her daughter was suspected to be among the dead, while Urai’s mother Pisamai, 52, was severely injured.

“I’m very saddened by the accident. I lost the most beloved person in my life and she did not do anything wrong but had to die because of some people’s carelessness. The bus company must take responsibility for the damages to us all,” she said.

Amporn Thumdee, 41, was also at the hospital to identify her husband, Boonhome, 46. She lost her friend, Samai Suwanrat, 46, also.

“I’m in deep grief. I have three kids who are still studying to take care of on my own now. My husband was the sole bread winner and I am just a stay-at-home housewife. I want those involved in the accident to take responsibility for this,” Amporn said.

Meanwhile Naree Srinuan, 46, called for those involved to take responsibility and paid compensation for this great loss of her family.

“My relatives were on their way to work as painters in Bangkok but most of them died in this accident. This is the biggest loss to our extended family,” said Naree. She lost her relatives, Thongdee Mahaphot, 45, Arthit Buriram, 8, Wittaya Buriram, 17, and Num Chansri, 15, in the accident, while another relative Withawat Moolrat, 14, was severely injured. She also called for those involved to take responsibility and pay compensation for this great loss of her family.

Meanwhile Pisamai Thaophrom, 41, is among grieving relatives who visited Siriraj Hospital on Wednesday to identify her 19-year-old daughter, Pilawan.

Pisamai said, “I want the bus company to be held responsible. My daughter was a good grade Mathayom 6 student who was about to take university entrance exams to Chulalongkorn or Thammasat, but now she is dead. I’ll sue until justice is served.

Pisamai also lost her nine-year-old nephew Sornram in the inferno.

Sura Chaimee, 36, lost her seven-month-old pregnant sister and her aunt in an accident

“My sister was seven month’s pregnant and was travelling with our aunt to deliver honey to Saraburi. When the bus reached Nakhon Ratchasima, we talked on the phone and she told me the bus kept having problems with the brake so the driver had to stop often to fix it,” said Sura.

Pisamai’s younger brother Boontiam Chaimee, 29, said: “I will file a lawsuit against the bus company and I want the Land Transport Department and those who checked the condition of the bus to be made responsible too. It they hadn’t neglected their duty, this accident would not have happened.”
